Chocovision Rev1 Chocolate Temperer, Revolation 1

Choco-Revolution
Tempering chocolate is one of the hardest things to do; even experienced professionals will fail at this task from time to time. There are machines that will do this, but they cost 4 figures. At less than $400, anyone who has an electrical outlet in the kitchen and can press two buttons can have perfectly tempered chocolate in about 20 minutes. Even the klutzy will be successful.

The most important feature of this machine is that the level of temper produced by this gadget is absolutely perfect, and is identical to the chocolate I temper by hand. It has separate settings for white, milk, or dark chocolates. I use one at work, and no longer have to temper chocolate for other employees. Mechanically, the machine operates flawlessly (an important fact, since the bowl rotates continuously whenever the machine is on). Operation is simple, since it has instructions printed right on the machine. The temper cycle is computer controlled, so you do not really need to know how it is...

Really good machine for those who use it (and know how to)
This is a really great machine. I've had mine for many years now, and it's given me great results every time. The design is pretty easy to use, and deals well with all the chocolate one is likely to get all over it. I would like it more if it had a bigger capacity, and if the baffle clip was curved instead of flat on the bottom-- to help feed chocolate instead of trapping it in that dead corner. And the machine's a bit loud. But it works wonderfully!

All that said, working with chocolate-- and a machine like this-- are NOT for the casual cook. Chocolate is fussy; if the air temperature is excessively warm or cold, or it's too humid (like most kitchens can be), or your molds aren't warmed, or your dipping centers are too cold, you can't blame the machine! This machine makes tempering chocolate a snap, but it still takes practice to get consistent results. If lug this machine out once a year, you might well end up hating it and regret the purchase. But if you're...

Not great
I bought this machine expecting great things. I have had problems with the machine stalling during the tempering process. I have had many conversations with the company, and they even replaced the first one. I am still having trouble. Once in a while, it works as expected, but more often than not, it stalls causing me to start all over again. I just finished a batch of Easter eggs which have a bloom on the surface because, after 4 tries at restarting, I just gave up and dipped the eggs. I may go back to the old fashioned way of tempering. Although it's a pain, at least it produces a nice looking dipped candy.

Chicago Food Machinery Stainless Steel 10" Deli Meat Slicer

Chef Choice alternative!
Think twice before you buy a chef choice product. 10 minutes of cleaning vs 30 minutes to clean the chef choice. Nice surface finished, will not cut your finger like the Chef Choice. About 50 USD cheaper, will be nicer if it come with Prime shipping!

Happy Chef
I have had three smaller slicers over the passed 20 years but I never enjoyed this type of power sense my last restaurant in 1980. I love the power and the compact size.

Clean, solid, unit - but underpowered.
This 10" slicer is pretty nice for the money. It is better than any big box slicer by a mile but doesn't quite stack up to a truly professional grade machine.

Positives:
+ All aluminum cast body.
+ Nice sliding motion of carriage.
+ Built in sharpener.
+ Small footprint and easy to pick up and move.
+ Rubber feet keep unit secure on counter while cutting.
+ Easy to clean but there are a few hard to reach places.
+ Fully adjustable cutting thickness w/ large adjustment knob.
+ Plastic covered "on/off" switch.
+ Adequate cord length.
+ Not convinced this is a Stainless Steel blade. It corrodes where sharpened. Must be chromed steel.

Negatives:
- Not a Stainless Steel blade.
- Blade flexes while cutting. Mine was not perfectly flat so it bobs around as it cuts. It needs to be thicker and more substantial to get a great cut. It can not cut cheese straight or dense salami meats.
- Motor is under...

Zojirushi NS-MYC10 Micom Fuzzy Logic 5.5 Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer

I never gave much thought to cooking rice...
I never gave much thouht to cooking rice until I moved to Japan--and acquired a Japanese spouse!

But we're fussy about our rice here, and nobody would dream of being without a rice cooker. Rice cookers are actually pressure cookers, so the rice is always plump and perfect.

I have the equivalent Japanese model (the same but with a different faceplate). I've had it for almost fou years and it's a real workhorse. Zoji is a value-brand here in Japan, specialising in small appiances, and known for being simple and sturdy. I would choose them over some of the big Japanese names, given the quality problems I've had with some of the other well-known electrical brands that make everything from TVs to elevators.

The rice? Can't fault it. Nor can the other half, who's ultra-critical. Makes great oatmeal, too, but I can't get the other half interested in such exotic foreign foods.

Really, really good rice.
I've made rice regularly for many years, using a steamer or using the stove. I thought I knew what well-cooked rice was. But when I eventually bought this machine, I learned what I had been missing. We are talking about wonderful texture and flavor. Yum.

The machine is very simple to operate (basically you push one button), and it'll keep your rice warm for many hours with no change in the texture, which seems remarkable to me. You can just leave it on, almost indefinitely, rather than putting your rice away and reheating it later. This is surprisingly convenient if you eat rice more than once a day.

However, you have to rinse the rice quite well or it will come out sticky. In addition, the machine doesn't come with instructions for brown rice, so I'm still figuring out the right method for that.

Also, the controls are confusing and hard to use -- an amazing achievement for such a simple machine. I could not make it any more confusing if I tried!!

My Taiwanese friend tells me...

Miracles in Technology - Perfect Rice
I purchased this machine from a local cooking supply shop, after doing some online research. The person who sold it to me told me that it was useful for little more than making really good rice. As I found out from research - that is simply not true. 'The Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook' by Beth Hensperger and Julie Kaufmann (ISBN 1-55832-202-7) gives you excellent recipes that are wonderfullly suited to this device. It's the manual you wish you would have gotten with this device.

Green Power Juicer - Model KPE 1304 - 10 Yr. Warranty

Good and Bad
I have owned several juicers over the years including Acme, Champion, and Juiceman II. Since the latter was what I replaced with the Green Power I will use it to make my comparison. The Juiceman is a good middle of the road juicer but we decided to upgrade when my wife became ill. We wanted one that could juice wheatgrass, and provided a better quality juice than the Juiceman. After researching we went with the Green Power.

Pro: the Green Power does provide a better quality juice. The pulp is much drier, the juice keeps longer, and it does a pretty fair job with wheatgrass. The Juiceman produces a wetter pulp and will not juice wheatgrass.

Con: not easy to clean. The Juiceman takes about two minutes and you're done, the Green power has more parts, smaller screens and just takes longer. Also, the juicer itself needs to be cleaned where the twin screws attach. Complicated. If you want carrot apple juice you have to replace screens in the middle of juicing...

Juicerific!!
I've owned my Green Power KPE 1304 Juicer for over 18 months now. Our family juices 3-4 times a week and we like to think of ourselves as seasoned pro's.

We juice wheatgrass on a regular basis and found that the machine works flawlessly making pretty much all juices. Our family is very health conscience and wanted a juicer that would make our favorite juices, be easy to clean and last a couple days before going bad, that is if we don't drink it all that same day.

I researched many different juicers including the Green Star and the Green Power Gold and learned that these models where a much older design from the mid 90's which has not been updated and had a few drawbacks. The Green Power 1304 is the latest design and I am telling you this because I was initially completely confused as Tribest tried to tell me that the Green Star and Green Power Gold where the latest and best models available which was completely untrue.

I contacted Kitchen's Best...

a great juicer
I upgraded from a low end centrifugal juicer and I'm very satisfied. Easy to operate and I was surprised to see that it works better with bigger veggie/fruit pieces so much less time chopping! To clean it I soak the parts in warm soapy water while I drink my juice and then scrub them with the included multi-brush, not much more difficult than the centrifugal. One unexpected mechanical quirk - the manual recommends allowing the motor to cool for ~5 minutes after ~25 minutes of juicing, the unit does slightly warm up during operation. I love it regardless and the juice tastes great!

3 Inch Button Maker Machine Complete Starter Kit

Great button machine!
I purchased this machine from umakebuttons and could not be happier with the kit. We have already made over 500 buttons as a fundraiser for our booster club. Not one issue with the machine; very solid construction. Soon we will be purchasing the 1.5 inch size. The refill parts off their website are also reasonably priced.

This button maker is junk
This button maker is so poorly made and doesn't work. No matter what we do we can't get button to pick up in the first stage of button-making. Without this feature the machine is totally worthless. No support numbers can be found to fix the problem. What a mess.

Wolfgang Puck Food Steamer Bistro 1400-Watt 3-Tier Rapid Food Steamer

Not happy with the service from Wolfgang
Bought this 3 tier steamer and it was delivered missing a part. Called retailer and they said call Wolfgang Puck. Called Wolfgang Puck and they don't respond. Very disappointed that the retailer will not stand behind their sales and tell you to call the manufacture and Wolfgang Puck thinks if they ignore you long enough you will go away. Wolfgang Puck has asked for receipts and want you to jump through hoops to get service after the sale and then they ignore you and will not respond. Bad service after the sale for a company that wants to be thought of as a top of the line product manufacture.

My new best friend
I LOVE this! Makes doing dinner a brease. Just add the various food in appropriate order, walk away to make a salad and in 30 minutes or less the rest of the food is done.

love it

T-fal TT7095002 Avante Deluxe 2-Slice Toaster, Stainless Steel

Bang for your buck
I looked for a whole year for a toaster as my old one slowly gave way. Three weeks ago I bought the T-fal 2-slice toaster and have been ecstatic about the way it performs. It toasts evenly and the bagel function works great. Also I had no idea what a "toast lift" was, but it does just what it says so that I no longer have to stick my fingers down inside to grab the toast. It's also about as stylish as a toaster can be...didn't buy it solely for that reason, but nonetheless, it's the "sports car" of toasters. I've never written a review before, but I am so absolutely pleased with this toaster that I decided to let others know. I highly recommend this toaster.

Mixed Blessing
Bought this toaster after reading the favorable reviews. My thoughts after one week of family use are mixed.

The good points: toasts evenly, like the lift handle concept and the slanted front face for easier access, the inside basket is beefy, secure and won't fail like my Cuisinart from repeated-use metal fatigue. Also bagel and re-heat options (via button use) are nice features.

My only detrimental comment relates to the heat settings. Unlike my previous toasters where one setting more or less worked for all bread types, this one needs separate settings for different bread types. For example, an effective setting for sliced sourdough bread on my toaster is 4 but a split sourdough dinner roll (2x thickness) needs to be at 2.5 setting or it will be badly burnt; why???? Do I need to mark various settings on the toaster so all family members are aware? Well, I did just that.

On a side note, stick to what fits in the basket because if the bread itself...

Toastmaster!
An excellent toaster: faster than my last one; browns evenly on both sides; love the slanted slots (can easily watch for that perfect moment when it's just the way I like it); all controls are large enough and well positioned; I use the reheat function to warm already buttered toast...ummmmm! Looking forward to using the bagel setting and eating bagels toasted crunchy on only the cut side (then buttered and reheated... can't wait!).

Aroma ARC-930 20-Cup (Cooked) Sensor Logic Rice Cooker and Food Steamer

Does the job & does it well
This is a step above the basic rice cooker. What I really like about this model is the pail that the rice cooks in is extremely easy to clean. Just soak it in water and everything falls out. Like all rice cookers, it is easy to use. I typically don't bother with the brown rice setting when cooking brown rice because it takes too long. I just cook all rice (brown & white) using the white rice setting, and it cooks fast and has good results. I haven't used the timer feature either, but I suppose that would be handy. It seems durable, too - we've used it 2-3 times a week for the last two years and it still works great.

Cooks rice to be very nice!
This is the second Aroma ARX-930 rice cooker and steamer I have purchased. I liked mine so much that I bought one for my son. It holds a large enough quantity for a crowd, and the outside stays cool. It cooks rice perfectly - there are different buttons to push for white and brown rice, and both come out beautifully. I use a bit more water than they suggest, but I don't rinse the rice first (which they also suggest); my guess is that the rinsing would remove some of the starch from the rice and therefore the amount of water they suggest would be just right. The rice cooker has a lining that is extremely easy to wash. I am totally satisfied with this product.

Perfect Rice!
I've used this cooker for the past 4 years and have never had a problem making any kind of rice with it; brown, white, basmati, long or short grained... it's all been perfect. This cooker takes the worry out of rice when preparing a large meal. Easy to use and easy to clean.

Rapid 6 Egg Cooker, Perfect fo

DANGEROUS!! NOT UL LISTED. BURNED OUT BREAKER IN PANEL!
I purchased this on Groupon and it has been a disaster. It is not UL Listed, which, unfortunately, I did not know about. NEVER buy anything that is not UL Listed. It is a very important certification. This egg cooker caused sparks to fly out of the outlet, tripped two GFCI circuits, and permanently destroyed a breaker within my electric panel. This is a new 200-amp electric service, and this shouldn't happen. An electrician will cost between one and two hundred dollars to repair this. It is made in China and their quality assurances are much lower than ours. Stay away!

Smart Cook Tortillera Tortilla Press

It works but it could be better
The tortilla press makes round tortillas in less time than trying to make them without a press. My disappointment lay in the fact that side of the tortilla closes to the handle base is thin while the side furthest is thicker and the middle part is the thickest. for regular tortillas it may not be as noticeable but when making tortillas with special ingredients it would be nice if the tortilla press made even tortillas and didn't bend around the dough somewhat. If you don't mind having your tortillas a bit thicker then its great (it doesn't get much thicker than a pre-cooked store package tortilla). I like mine to be pretty thin and even when I toss them on the pan. My current solution for the bowing in the middle is to press the middle with my palm and lean into it for a couple seconds. I'll probably continue to use this press and do a little extra with the rolling pin if I want to get them thin. It still helps with saving time.

Broke the first time I used it
I'm a chef so I'll admit I'm a bit hard on things, however this press broke on the 3rd tortilla I made....really?...the 3rd tortila? Come on!

OK product, crappy name
Does what it's designed to do, and does it acceptably. But, someone please tell their marketing department that "tortillera" is Spanish for "lesbian".

Funtime Palace Popper 8 OZ Commercial Bar Style Popcorn Popper Machine - FT824PP

Don't Buy This - Total LIE
This product is a total lie, I wonder how it passed as an Amazon merchant. Commercial quality? NO, it looks so tiny it must be only for household use....8-oz? NO, it looks more like 4 oz. I ordered this for my subcontractor, he used it all weekend (concession stand) so I could not return it anymore but I can only blame myself for I just got something for what I paid for. I expected that but the merchant gave false description of the product. The electric cord looks so flimsy it looks like we shouldn't leave it unattended. ATTENTION AMAZON, I would drop this merchant it's giving you a bad rap. I only bought this because it came from Amazon but now I know better. This should be rated a ZERO.

No problems. This pops corn just like it promises. A clean-out tray would be nice, but a vacuum cleaner hose works well.

The grinder was perfect at first, but with daily use build up happens quickly and it's not as smooth to grind. For the value, though, it's decent.

Awesome Grinder
The three chamber system is great. It may not grind herb as fine as some would like it, because the holes passing from the first to second chamber are rather large. Additionally, the screen between the second and third chamber is very fine. Works great for me though!

Ok..

For me this is too fast...I could definitely see it cooking fast on the HIGH setting, but LOW? Fortunately, I am a SAHM, but if I had to go to work, my food would be burnt by the time I got home, not good.

Haier HVTM12BSS 12-Bottle Wine Cellar with Electronic Controls

bogus
I bought this wine cooler 4 years ago and just realized today that it is not functioning and has not been working properly for a while. It is no longer under warranty and it would cost more to fix than it is worth. In thinking about buying a new wine cellar, I will DEFINITELY not choose Haier, and I suggest you don't either, if you want something that lasts.

good value
This size is exactly what I needed. It is very quiet. HOWEVER, the bottles don't fit in easily. The racks are too close and you struggle to get a bottle in and out.

We bought this coffee maker 5 months ago and loved it. It was easy to program, made great coffee, etc. Then yesterday, water started pouring out of the bottom of it. We emptied it out and saw a huge crack at the bottom of the water reservoir. It's never been dropped or moved much for that matter. Total disappointment but even more so when I went on line and saw that it's happened to quite a few other consumers over the last 6 months. Item should probably be recalled! I would hesitate now to buy other small appliances with the "Food Network" name on it. Seeing that they don't sell it on the Food Network website should probably have told me something!

Sunbeam FRSBCB40-BLS 4-Quart Ice Cream Maker, Blue

Quick and Easy Ice Cream
My mother-in-law had this ice cream maker and liked it, so I bought one. It works great! After you mix up your ice cream it only takes about 20 or so minutes to make it. Let it sit for a few more minutes to harden up a bit and it's ready to serve. For it's small outward size it sure makes quite a bit of ice cream. We have used this little ice cream maker at home and while camping and it is easy to use and clean. It takes up very little storage space compared to other ice cream makers that make 4 quarts.

Best ever. Period
I've been eating homemade ice cream at least once/month for the past 40 years (not an exaggeration), it's a Sunday family tradition and we have all types of machines, mostly the wood barrel, expensive ones (where the metal rusts from the salt) and as a consensus, everyone agreed over labor day weekend, that this ice cream was by far the fluffiest, lightest, most ready-to-eat after freezing that we have ever had. No change in recipe, just a change in machine. I bought a second one today just in case they stop making it.

Horrible design
I've been making ice cream for a long time, using many different ice cream makers. Of all the ones I have used, this is the WORST. Maybe if you used crushed ice this would work, but if you use ice with cubes larger than a dime, watch out. If a cube get's jammed in the bucket, the motor pops off. It did this to me multiple times until I gave up and borrowed a friend's maker. I wonder if they actually used this maker before they tried to sell it. Very poor design. I will be returning it to the store. I would give it 0 stars if I could.

Back to Basics SIT466LP Electric Ice Shaver

Electric Ice Shaver
This machine has been used several times during the past few weeks since its arrival, and our granddaughter loves the sno cones. She is 6-years-old, and even she can use it with no problem. My wife was unable to use the manual machine that we had previously gotten, and this one works great. We did discover that the ice molds that came with it must be used, as regular cubes seem to be a bit more difficult to grind and takes a little longer.

Shave Ice at a GREAT price!
My kids love Shave Ice, but the only time they get to eat it is when the get to go to a Polynesian festival or actually go to Hawaii. This is a great little machine that makes fluffy shave ice at a very reasonable price. The machine is a bit noisy, but the kids don't seem to mind. I would highly recommend this little machine to anyone who has kids who love shave ice. For those of you from the Islands, this is not like the shave ice you remember, but it is a fun little machine to have at home.

not too bad for the price
I like that this works with both regular ice cubes and the round ice blocks made with the two cups that are included (the round ice blocks do work better). Would be a little time consuming to make more than one or two snow cones.

TRU Triple Buffet Slowcooker

so versatile!
This TRU triple buffet server is special because the middle pot is large enough for a chicken or other main entree while the two side pots are just the right size for hot side dishes. We had a hard deciding whether to get this style or the one with three smaller pots. We're happy that we chose this style because we can slow cook enough in the center pot for the main course and cook or heat potatoes (it bakes whole potatoes beautifully,) vegetable casseroles, etc. in the smaller side pots. The included racks hold the lids upright at the back of the server and let any moisture on the undersides of the lids drip back into the pots. If you don't want to use all three pots, just turn on the one or ones you want. This appliance lives on our counter all winter because we use it often for our meals, not just for entertaining.

Mr. Coffee JWX20 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, White

Really poor product
The other reviewers are right. This makes a decent cup of coffee, but it's really messy. Grounds get everywhere and due to its size it's hard to rinse the inside in the sink. It's awkward to fill because it's extra long and you have to fill it at the back. The clock hasn't kept the time right since we got it. Wish I'd read reviews first, but our last pot died one morning, and I just ran out and got one. This is about our 4th coffeepot over the years, and the first one I really dislike.

Very poor design - hard to clean
Bought this about a month ago at a local store. It looked like a good deal, and I had never had a bad experience with Mr Coffee before.

The other reviews are SPOT ON. When it brews, the coffee is good. I have experienced the folded over filter/grounds in coffee, and you never know when it will happen. The inside of the coffee maker is just poorly designed. Grounds and splashed coffee tend to go all over the inside of the unit, making cleanup a real pain. Since the brewing chamber and water storage are in the same area, the steam from the coffee (along with the splashes) tends to accumulate on the inside and further make a mess.

I would never buy this coffee maker again, and I am strongly contemplating donating it and buying a new one. I hate having to clean it up all the time. You gotta wonder if the designers of these coffee makers actually try to use it at home for a couple of days to see how they work. Does not look that way.

Coffee grinds spilling into coffee pot
About 50% of the time when I'd go to pour a cup of coffee, the filter had been compromised and the grinds leaked into the pot! Not happy with this purchase. The features are nice, but the actual coffee making is not good.

Big Boss 9089 Electric Citrus Juicer, Green

Fun way to juice, but disspointed after using a while...
I just updated my rating on this product from a 5-star to a 3-star after using it for a longer period of time. I actually got where I really disliked the activation switch which is activated by pushing down the fruit. It's almost like it's shorting out and makes a horrible loud sound.

Also, taking the unit apart for cleaning isn't as easy as I originally thought and I end up making a mess since the parts don't release very easily.

I also wish it had measurement indicators in cups rather than ML's.

Here's my previous 5-star review written on my initial impression:

I'm on a juicing detox program and wanted a way to juice lemons for my Lemon Salad Dressing (see recipe below). I also wanted to be able to make orange and grapefruit juice in the morning. I have a regular old style juicer (juice by hand), but with the price of citrus I wanted a way to extract all the juice. This little appliance does it all!

There is not a traditional...

Wusthof Wood Block and Steel

It's supposed to be free, and it's poorly made!
Let's start with the fact that the box this is packaged in says "Your Gift with Purchase" in big black letters. Where I come from, that means this is a giveaway item when you buy something else, and the 79.99 "value" they base the $39.99 selling price on is completely arbitrary.

Now that I've established that this is supposed to be free, therefore couldn't possibly be worth $39.99, let's discuss the product's quality.

The seams where the wood pieces are glued together(we don't expect it to be one solid piece of oak) are uneven, and no attempts to sand them down have been made. There is glue on the sides of the block that apparently dripped out when the pieces were put together that wasn't cleaned up and is now a permanent part of the block. It just won't come off.

Then there is the putty. Yes, putty. In the places where the wood wasn't whole, or there were knots or other imperfections, they slopped wood putty into the spaces. Not smooth, filled, color-matched putty, but...

WĂĽsthof should be ashamed!
Well, I could not believe my eyes when I opened the package from Amazon. My girlfriend said she would not keep even garden tools in the knife block.

I will start with the good part though. The steel is a nice made-in-Germany piece (which can be had in Europe for about ten-twelve euros).

Now the bad part: considering the price amazon sells both items together, the block is valued twice as much as the steel. I do not like to use harsh words but the only word that could describe this block is 'junk'. Made-in-China no-quality-control-whatsoever junk in a knotted ordinary plastic bag. It is made from poor-quality wood and it looks like it was 'stored' outside in the rain for a month or so, then broken apart by throwing it into a wall and glued back together by a blind one-handed man in a hurry. Don't get me wrong, I am not talking about the fact blocks are made from pieces, the one I received was literally broken apart and glued back.

Now, I do not know what to do: return this to...

Exactly what I expected
It's a shame when people rate products based on the defective example they received. Sure, consistency in workmanship is a consideration, but don't think bad things don't happen in transit.
That said, I really like this block. It is exactly what I needed and I couldn't beat the price (free with purchase of 3-peice starter set). And, it HOLDS MY 9-INCH BREADKNIFE, as well as the 3-peice starter set and steel. It came to me in great shape and feels solid. It's a lot heavier than I thought it would be. I plan to add kitchen shears and leave the other 3 slots open for knives I decide I need later.
The only thing missing is a place to put steak knives. You'll need a separate steak-knife block or a larger block to accommodate steak knives. I'm single and don't need many knives. I gave four stars instead of five for the small size that may not work for many people, and as stated above, the lack of space for steak knives.

Sunbeam RC61 Rival 6-Cup Finished Rice Cooker with Cook & Keep Warm Settings

Affordable, and cooks rice
Seriously, that's my review. I got the memo late on rice cookers. We are a healthy eating family and I have cooked brown rice, black rice and quinoa in this thing. It's great. Only one time did the bottom come out a little crispy and it was the one time I wasn't home to take it out after it finished. Otherwise, this is quick and easy, and a much easier clean up than my steamer.

La Sorrentina Atomic Coffee Machine

Great Machine.
I have a coffee business so I have used a professional espresso machine for 7 years. This is really much more fun. I am still trying to get just the right mixture of water, grounds and cooking time but it is a joy to use this machine. I considered buying one of the original Atomic machines from Ebay but since this one is made from the original 1947 specifications, I thought I would start out with a fresh machine. Really has great frothing pressure if you follow the on-line forum instructions, it makes a great cappuccino. I have not yet mastered americanas because I can’t consistently make the espresso the same strength – yet. Great fun.

Extremely Versatile Moka Pot Machine with Great Extraction
I have owned an original Thomas LaCara Atomic espresso machine since 1977 and still use it frequently because it makes a unique style of coffee. I roast my own beans in the oven at 415F to a bit after first crack in 20 minutes, which makes a lighter style roast. I grind them as fine as possible in a a shatter grinder and tamp the ground coffee VERY hard to make a very dense plug. This plug will expand when exposed to the hot water and allow a very slow extraction at relatively high pressure in my Atomic machine. My ugly LaCara pressure gauge is barely functional but I mostly brew at pressures well over 2.5bar. I have been doing this for the whole life of the machine (30 years+) and my safety valve is likely corroded shut as it never releases during brewing. The result is an extremely dense full extraction brew with low volume and a lot of crema, even from less than dark roast beans. Unlike espresso, this extraction has seen much higher heat as this style of machine uses steam heat to...

Well-Made Reproduction
I owned an original Atomic machine and am very pleased with the La Sorrentina. It would be nice if they included a spare gasket.

MaxiMatic DRC-1000B Elite Platinum 10-Cup Stainless Rice Cooker, Black

started smoking first time i used it.
I owned this rice cooker for less then 4 hrs. brought it home. got excited. On the first use, it started smoking. i unplugged it. I had to throw the rice away. the smoking was a burnt electrical smell. I am not a fan of Elite anymore i will not buy anything they make. I bought a single burner that i was going to use and put in a smoker. that lovely think gave out electrical smoke too. i wish that i could say i loved it because i was excited to use it. Roll the dice on this product, you may get a good one.

Burnt rice
The bottom burns a LOT! I usually make two cups of rice, and only one cup comes out edible because the rest comes out completely burnt. Waste of money.

Simple and Works
This is a very simple, straight forward rice maker. It has worked reasonably well for me. I generally make several cups of rice at a time and just save leftovers for later since it burnt the rice when I made a small amount. I have also started using more water than it recommends and the results are perfect. I'll admit I could never get rice to turn out making it on a stove (I probably would mess with it too much during cooking) so this has been great.
It requires a little cleaning after use but its pretty minor, the non-stick pot is a breeze to clean and wet cloth over the rest seems to keep it looking nice. I have not had any trouble with it spewing starch all over like others say. It obviously steams like every other rice maker so I put it out on the counter where it won't be blowing it right into a confined space but other than that its straight forward.
Overall it works fine especially for the reasonable price when I purchased it.

Hulk Hogan Thunder Mixer (MX10) by Salton

Fun to watch in action, might be useful, seals wear out.
I got it for free almost a decade ago from my high school metal shop teacher who found a case of them for next to nothing. He used the plastic cylinder to help hold flexible metal things like chains while buffing. Mine was new old stock in box, and in that condition the seals were perfect. Back then I used it more as a toy and watch the water cyclone go round. When I finally thought of some legitimate uses for it so many years later I found that the momentary switch was dead and the gaskets did not seal like they used to. It still works, but I have to bypass the switch with wire and it leaks like crazy when the motor is stationary. Ahh well, it was fun while it lasted. I might figure out a way to fix it. Another reviewer said it was no better then a spoon. I disagree. If I mix cocoa and instant coffee into cold milk with a spoon there will be lumps, with the thunder mixer there are no lumps and the fake iced mocha is topped with foam- just like it's hot counterpart! Don't...

Thunder Mixer? More like "Call a plumber mixer"
This product might be the worst thing I have ever purchased. I could do a better job with a wooden spoon. Are blenders/mixers supposed to leak? By some miracle the electrical components of this thing haven't shorted out yet. If you plan on using it, be sure to have multiple (10-20) towels ready. I like to mix things, pour my drink into a glass, and then ring the towels into my glass too. It's usually almost half the drink that seeps out of the stupid thing. The product description claims it has a "super sealing lid" and a "leak-proof rubber gasket", what a blatant lie that is. I bet the guy who wrote that is laughing maniacally somewhere because he knew full well that every inch of this thing leaks. You would assume "thunder" mixer would imply that this thing has some actual power behind it. It could easily be defeated by a single meager piece of ice. Why would Hulk lend his name to such a shotty product? Do you think Hulk's wrestling career is as fake as this sad excuse...

Great Mixer!
My dad gave me this mixer when I needed something to mix my protein powder with. He had the mixer for a long time, and it still works perfectly fine for me! It's unfortunate for the other reviewer that they have leaks, because I have never had a leak. I actually don't even use the lid because it stays inside the cup, although I only put 4oz. of milk in with my powder, so it only fills about a quarter of the cup. As for using ice, I don't believe it's intended to be used with ice. This is not a blender. I would suggest mixing your drink, and pouring it into a glass of ice if you want it cold.

Cuisine Clean - Fruit and Vegetable Washer - oZone

How safe is this product?
Wow, what a disappointment! The product comes fully assembled except for a small mesh bag with charcoal dust in it that needs to be insalled in the lid. Not only did I get the charcoal all over my hands but the thing keeps falling out of the lid as I run the unit! But this isn't the worst part. Over the holidays I had a friend over that is a chemist and I was showing her the unit. To her, the odor that was coming out of the unit just wasn't quite right. She asked if it was okay for her to take into work today and she just called to tell me that the unit was emitting 1,200 times the amount of ozone that is allowed by UL and OSHA!! I may not get the wording right here but I guess the allowable limit is around 50ppb (parts per billion) and according to her equipment this unit pumped out about 62ppm (parts per million) on a consistent basis. Do the math and that is over 1,200 times the allowable limit set by UL and OSHA!! How does a unit like this get carried by reputable...

Faulty Product
I returned this product because using it scared my family and I. I started juicing 6 months ago and was concerned about the safety of the fruits and vegetables I was using. So I was excited when I saw this product. But just as another reviewer said, this product put off a horrible smell in my home which caused me grave concern. It also slashed up my fruit and vegetables if the unit was filled to the top. I had to only put stuff in half way up in the unit in order for it not to damage the fruit. I called Vesture to inquire about the smell coming from the Cuisine Clean. The only response he could give me was that he also owned a unit, it did have a strong odor coming from it, but he "liked" the smell!!! He also stated that I could continue to use it by placing it outside, which would also solve the charcoal issue because then I wouldn't have to use the filter/charcoal. This seemed absurd to me since I live in a cold climate, plus it would be a bother to transport this thing back...

Nice while it lasted
We purchased a unit a couple years ago and it just died...looks like a broken or shredded belt/pulley and the unit no longer spins. I've visited to Vesture site and tried to email their customer service and emails sent to 3 different addresses have bounced back so we are just tossing this junk in the trash.

I'm sure since it is outside the 1 year warranty getting a replacement unit for this obvious design flaw is not going to happen. Seems like another item that barely outlives its warranty period before dying...this is becoming the norm with many products.

We did not even get a chance to wear this unit out. While it was working it seemed to clean things without any problems but you really are "trusting" it is cleaning..how can you tell if fruit/veges are actually clean...I agree with the one reviewer...the odor released does stink and I was wondering if ozone spewing into our house air is safe even with a filter.

We're just going back to hand...

Panasonic MJ-M176P 3-in-1 Juicer/Blender/Grinder Machine, 220 to 240-volt

By far, the best juicer on the market.
I bought this juicer after having tried my other juicers in the market. Compared to my previous 2 Moulinex, 1 Braun and 1 catastrophic Ariete (leaking juice from all corners) this is Panasonic is simply marvelous: powerful, the engine works with no hesitation with any kind of vegetables; even the toughest ones. Mine is the version still made in Japan (I hear nowadays this model is produced in Malaysia). The included blender is an axcellent tool to prepare smoothies, milk shakes, pesto, sauces etc.
Look no further. This is the definitive health centre of your kitchen.

6 vacuum sealer roll. Fits Tilia FoodSaver vacuum sealer.

Great size for freezing small portions
I picked up this single-pack 6" roll just to see how it would work for me. I'm usually only cooking for one or two people, so I often buy the family-/army-sized packages of things like pork/lamb chops, steaks, ground meats, etc and then repackage them into more convenient single-portion sizes that I can freeze and grab out as I need them.

The pre-made pint-size bags were usually a good width for this, but often longer than necessary - so a fair bit of wasted bag material. (1/4 pound of ground beef looks positively pitiful in a pint bag. :-) I figured the 6" roll was the same width as a pint bag, and since I could cut it to length I hoped it might work better for my mini-portions. And it's worked great - I actually just went and ordered the six-pack version of these rolls.

Possible downside for some is that unlike the Foodsaver-brand continuous rolls there's no white labeling area pre-printed on these Univen rolls. Personally I find freezer tape works better...

The price of the Dr Tech 7-in-1 Stand Mixer is excellent with a powerful 650 Watt motor, and combination of 3 cutting blades meat grinder, blender, Ice Cream Maker, Juicer, Sausage filler, vegetable cutter/processor and stand mixer. Cost for delivery was over $80, but I have received it in one week. Instruction manual is weak and non-professional quality. I have used it and it is working just fine. Overall, I am very happy with the product.

Allavino MWR-542-BR 51 Bottle Dual Zone Wine Cellar Refrigerator - Black Door

Very Good, not Excellent
I purchased my Allavino dual zone wine fridge about 7 or 8 weeks ago. I looked at quite a few and this one seemed to meet most of my requirements. It arrived by trucker about 10 days later. While the outside of the packaging looked fine, it was badly damaged on the inside. I immediately contacted Amazon, who in turn contacted the Beverage Factory (BV). After I forwarded a few pictures of the damage, I must say that BV was courteous, helpful and said they would ship a replacement unit right away. Right away took longer than expected (about 2 weeks) and I had to take another day off to wait for the truck (too big and heavy for standard carriers). This one was fine and thus far is working properly. Pros - simple, clean design and maintains temperatures well in both zones. Cons - a little noisy and the bottom shelf is junky. Other shelves have nice glides, but the bottom shelf just lies there and does not pull out well, at all. Overall I am satisfied with the unit and the...

Nice unit, but...
The temp fluctuations seem pretty wide, and if you don't have this in a closet or something, it is loud when the fan runs! The quality of the unit itself is very nice.

Bosch TCA6001UC Benvenuto B20 Thermoblock 15-Bar-Pump Fully Automatic Espresso Machine

Machine was unknowingly broken from day 1.
After owning this machine for 3 years, it went TU. As reported by others, the listed customer service number is a joke, but they gave me the number of the only people in the country that know anything about the machine and service it - Turnpike Appliance in Bay Shore, NY 631-665-8311. The service man is Mike and he was very helpful. After over $400 in repairs the machine was returned, at which time I found it was screwed up from day 1. The manual doesn't even alude to the existence of a removable (and cleanable) Brew Group. In my case it couldn't be removed because the Drive Unit was broken and jammed the Brew Unit. I had to turn off the power just before the end of the stroke before the Brew Group could be removed. In addition to replacing the Brew Group and Drive Unit, the steam valve and grinder had to be replaced. There is no information on how the machine is supposed to work, so I never knew it wasn't working correctly from the beginning. The key indicator is that it seldom made...

Great Machine
After years of use, I replaced my Saeco machine with the Bosch B20. I did a lot of research, and I think this is a great machine for the money. It is fast to start up, and it makes great coffee and espresso. The steam rod/hot water dispenser is also top notch. The Germans do a great job engineering a great boiler. Water is super hot and there is no wait. If you make tea, it is a lot faster than waiting for a kettle.

I never had any customer service issues, so I cannot really address the machine from that angle. Finding the cleaning pods was not that hard, IMHO.

The only complain I have is that the water tank is a small, and must be refilled often if you drink a lot of coffee or make a lot when you have guests.

Strong & Reliable
I've owned the Bosch for over 5 years now. It's pushed out close to 10,000 shots of coffee now and is still as dependable as the day we got it. I've seen the low ratings on here for it and all I can say is that when this one dies, I will get another one.
Pros - adjustability, ease of use, ease of cleaning, dependability, sleek good looks, solid programming and logic
Cons - takes awhile to do the descaling, but I owe it that much!

This machine is a lot more machine than the average automatic. Take the time to learn how to use it, what coffee roast works the best and how to steam. It will pay off with a wonderful green tea latte or hot chocolate steamed and frothed to perfection or a simple coffee as strong as you want it.

If you're in Las Vegas, Econ Appliances services them and I'm sure that any metro area will have appliance repair services that can handle it. They're not that complicated.

Buy it and enjoy it. (Pre-nup says I get it...

BELLA 13566 Theatre Popcorn Maker, Red and White

Excellent Unit
This is down scale version of the commercial popcorn maker used in Movie Theatres. MSRP is $60. The unit is 12inches x 12inches x 18inches high. The stainless kettle holds 2 oz of raw kernels. Popcorn capacity is measured by the raw kernels the kettle holds. Typical sizes sold for consumer use are 2, 4, 6oz.

Typical made in China quality for this price range. Lightweight sheet metal and plastic sides. Care must be taken when wiping down the plastic sides to keep from scratching them. The unit is colorful and does look nice.

There is no real assembly. All you need to do is slide in the kettle and attach the handle. Popping corn is just as easy. Pour one scoop of oil into the kettle. Turn the kettle on and let it warm up for 3-5minutes (only for the first batch). When the kettle is on, the built in stirrer will start to rotate. Once the kettle is hot, add one scoop of raw corn. Within a minute the corn would start blasting out the kettle. Kind of fun watching the...

Okay Machine. Not Great.
Machine is cute, light, and fairly easy to move around. It only makes about enough popcorn for a small bowl, we are following the directions and using it as we are supposed to. My main problem is getting the popcorn out. I have to open it near a sink because the popcorn goes everywhere. It is VERY hard to clean. Things get stuck in the door hinges and pan itself, once put together, is hard to clean.

i LOVE POPCORN.
This product is not only cute, it makes the world's best popcorn! Popcorn & movies, what more could you ask for!

Love it
I have had this machine for several months and it's great. I use regular coffee (no pods) and can brew a strong single cup of coffee that's perfect. Easy to clean and use. It's a sound investment that I can make a good single cup for just me and a pot when I have guests.

Sanyo 5-Cup Rice Cooker & Vegetable Steamer for 220 Volt Countries (Not for USA Use)

Absolute garbage, stay away from this.
You definitely get what you pay for. This Sanyo 5-Cup Rice Cooker & Vegetable Steamer for 220 Volt is a piece of junk.

First of all, it is NOT in any way a Steamer. There is no steamer basket, no way to steam anything. Complete false advertising.

It uses some funky weight/temperature spring-loaded contraption to control cooking. The pot is ill-fitting and you have to fool with it to get it seated just right so you can turn it on.

The power cord seems like it was made for pennies and barely stays connected. If you move it after you plug it in, the cord will fall out.

I was willing to overlook the cheapness and poor quality of it as long as it worked. It did. Exactly two times.

The first two times I used it, it worked just fine. Made two cups of rice on the first batch, and one cup on the second. All good. The third time I used it, again for a one cup batch, followed the instructions to the letter, just like previous uses...
