Looks can be deceiving
I purchased this set instead of the traditional type where you turn the knob to grind the seasons. At first glance they look well built with the outer shell made of metal. Loading the them up with salt and pepper has to be done carefully since the opening at the top of the reservoir is narrow, this is especially true for the pepper grinder; I had to wrap my hand around the body of the reservoir to create a funnel as I poured the peppercorns down the narrow opening. The adjustment knobs are easy to turn but turning them all the way to fine did not produce the results I would consider 'fine'. Loading the batteries was easy the top shell slides off and you insert the batteries according to the slot's polarity which clearly molded in each battery compartment. A set of batteries lasted 2 months if used sparingly. The grinders each have built-in LED lights in the event you are using them grilling food outdoors. Unfortunately the durability of the grinders was poor, you do not want to knock...

this product is horrible...bought it as a Christmas gift for my GF....batteries did not go in correctly...there for the item didn't not function properly...and not at all at times....very poor design for battery hold....also...it would fall apart....sucks....I tell you what..these guys owe me....

Don't give these as gifts. They break easily and don't properly control the flow of salt or pepper, especially salt. These are OK for your own table if you use a hard salt. They're certainly not as good as the originals.
